This year has seen a large increase in the number of female professors at Universities, up 4% from last year. This increase is the direct result of more and more emancipated women in the higher education sector. This progressive shift in women’s education is showing how much we are developing as a country; that education is for all and traditions are becoming less as a key role in one’s life.
But more still needs to be done. With only 20% of employees being female, there is still a big divide between the male and female workers in the University sector.
But as the number of applications have decreased for University, 22,000 (6.4%) than last year, and a 1.7% decrease in jobs, Academic Unions have complained that it is a sign of the times to come from the 40% cut in the University sector. But they must be deluded, not only are we in a depression and cuts need to be made, the number of applicants has fallen. This clearly shows that there is no need to have professors teaching empty classes.
With the number of women taking high powered roles in the higher education sector, it clearly shows that the previous social barriers may slowing be falling and women in the further and higher education work place may soon be the norm!
