The Ed’s comedy roadshow!

On Saturday we were entertained by Mr Ed Balls, showing his true colours and supporting the government’s public spending proposals. We thought that this was the ‘New Labour’ falling back into the post election political party, disorganised, weak and going no-where. But today, when Ed Miliband supported the comments made by Mr Balls, the reality of this political party was clear for all to see.

On the other side, it does show that Ed Miliband is not going to simply roll over by the pressure of the Unions – Unite and GMB. This glimmer of strength could be enough to build upon. But something needs to be done, and fast. Upsetting the Unions is risky business for the Labour party; with the vast majority of their funding being sourced by the Unions, they cannot afford to loose their backing.

But where to go next? Their demise as a strong political party is making decisions desperate and will cost the party dearly. A cabinet reshuffle is needed, with the Labour voters re-voting for a new leader. These voters have had to become loyal to the party and deserve the option to vote in a new leader.

These next few weeks will be nervous times for the Labour party, to see if it will have what it takes to rebuild itself, or will collapse as a large political party.
